Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is set on the banks of an oxbow lake formed by the Grumeti River and nestled among tall evergreen trees on the water’s edge. The surface of this pan of water is cloaked with a vivid green layer of water lettuce that helps to shade resident hippos from the intense African sun and provides a playground for wading birds.
Accommodation is provided in 10 flamboyant tents tucked under shady palm frond roofs.
Communal guest areas boast colourful open-fronted sitting and dining spaces and domed bar, all adorned with Yoruba beaded artifacts. The spacious decks and lodge pool are perfect for you to relax with sundowners while enjoying views over the river.
As night descends, camp buildings and paths are lit by flaming torches and lamps. Tempting scents from the boma entice and attract. Traditional fires, jikos and outdoor ovens produce mouth-watering aromas and meals with a backdrop of the sounds of the African night. Romantic private dinners at the swimming pool can be arranged for any special occasion.
The Camp provides a unique vantage point to enjoy the sight of the vast masses of the Great Migration making their dramatic river crossing. At the right time, the sight of two million wildebeest and zebra as they trek across the vast Serengeti plains in search of new grass is astounding.
Twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles offer you many sightings of resident wildlife.
The morning game drives begin as the sun is rising and the nocturnal predators are ending their nightly hunts. There is always the chance you might see a pride of lion lingering over last nights kill or a leopard relaxing on a branch where it has wedged its prey.
The smaller denizens of the bush come to life as the daylight hours make it easier for them to spot any predators still on the prowl. In the late afternoon, sit in the midst of antelope, buffalo and elephant as they make their way down to the river, either singly or in herds, for a last, refreshing drink.
Dozens of species of birds abound in the area.
When the Great Migration moves through the Grumeti area, game drives will concentrate on the massed herds and the various carnivores that accompany them. You may be fortunate enough to witness the wildebeest crossing the Grumeti River, where some of Africas largest crocodiles lie in wait.
From balloon safaris and photographic adventures, to romantic sundowners and breathtaking scenery, Grumeti offers you an exceptional wildlife experience.
