Rooms

Nestled around the ancient and majestic baobab, the oldest tree in our hotel, Treehouse Mbili offers a truly unique experience. This spacious treehouse can accommodate up to four guests, featuring a comfortable king-size bed and two twin beds situated upstairs. The room includes a charming half ensuite bathroom, complete with toilets and sinks. For a more immersive experience, the shower is hidden within the garden, at the base of the towering baobab.

The view from Mbili is nothing short of breathtaking, overlooking the serene Chole Bay. At night, let the gentle rustling of the baobab leaves lull you into a peaceful sleep, surrounded by the natural beauty of this extraordinary setting.

Perched high in the canopy of an ancient baobab tree, which seems to have adopted the spirit of a mangrove with its roots nestled in the sea, treehouse number one offers a captivating view of the ocean and Kinasi Pass. From this vantage point, you can gaze over the mangroves, enchanted by the glow of fireflies at night, while the spacious deck wraps around the tree, providing a truly unique retreat. Occasionally, guests share their stay with other inhabitants, such as nesting Fish Eagles or Kites, who call the baobab home.

The shower, tucked away in a bamboo thicket, is a personal favorite, offering a serene, natural experience.

To enhance your comfort, the room now features two sinks and an ensuite toilet, ensuring an unforgettable stay with all the modern conveniences.

Nne is another of the most popular tree houses, and for good reasons. It is ensuite and was the first of three houses with the upstairs ‘tea house’ design: the ‘tea house’, a 19th-century Stone Town innovation, is essentially an elevated room that is open to the breezes, allowing for 360-degree views; the sunsets are spectacular from here. Quite similar to seven, but Nne has a baobab and views to the open ocean.

Nne also has an incredible private sundeck with its own plunge pool overlooking the mangrove and the bay. The fireflies come to visit while you stargaze on the deck or when you take your shower on the open shower that is also located on the deck. Nne is one of our ensuite treehouse with all the commodities available in the trees so you don't have to come back to the ground during your stay with us if you don't want to.

Saba is one of our fully ensuite treehouses, nestled around two vibrant flamboyant trees and surrounded by historic ruins.

This treehouse stands out with its generous space, comfortably accommodating two adults and two children. The tea house offers breathtaking sunset views over the beach, where refreshing breezes sweep through, making it an ideal retreat. The large sun deck, complete with a private plunge pool, invites you to relax and soak in the tranquil surroundings. Inside, the treehouse is bathed in natural light, with a bright and airy bathroom that adds to its charm.

One of Saba's unique features is its location on the beach, providing an authentic connection to the rhythms of coastal life. While the morning activity of fishermen setting out to sea may bring a touch of lively character, it only enhances the immersive experience. Additionally, Saba offers a rare view of Mafia Island across the water. Although the island’s nighttime lights may dim the fireflies' glow in the nearby mangroves, Saba remains a haven for those seeking a balance between nature’s wonders and modern comforts.

Sita, known as the 'ground house,' was thoughtfully designed for families with small children or for those who prefer a stay closer to the earth rather than up in the trees. This spacious accommodation offers a unique multi-level layout, creating distinct areas for relaxation and sleep. The king-size bed, set on the highest level, feels almost throne-like, while two Zanzibari beds are just a few steps below, and a cozy day bed awaits on the porch.

Sita features a sunken, mosaic bath—a delightful micro swimming pool for the kids—and a refreshing shower. The house opens onto expansive gardens that lead to the mangroves, where fireflies dance in the night, creating a magical ambiance. Though Sita is conveniently located near the bar and restaurant, it remains completely private, thanks to carefully planted hedges and floor-to-ceiling curtains. It’s an ideal retreat for a young family, offering both space and seclusion in a beautiful natural setting.

Tano, the second of the ‘tea house’ treehouses, offers an enchanting blend of history and nature. Nestled among the fig-entwined ruins of a grand 19th-century mansion, Tano is a reminder of Chole’s vibrant past when it was a bustling hub of trade between the Shirazi Sultanate of Kilwa on the Tanzanian coast and the Omani Sultanate of Zanzibar.

Perched high in the trees, Tano provides sweeping views of Chole Bay, where the gentle breezes carry the whispers of history. When the figs are ripe, this treehouse becomes a favorite gathering spot for the majestic ‘flying foxes’ that inhabit the island, adding a magical touch to your stay.

Tano is part of the original Chole Mjini experience, complete with a charming shower hidden deep within its private garden and a rustic dry toilet on the ground floor. Every detail of Tano invites you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and rich heritage of Chole Island.

Tatu, also known as "the house on the rocks," is a true hidden gem, reached by passing through a magical foliage tunnel that feels like stepping into another world. This treehouse is surrounded by a symphony of fireflies and is the most intimately connected to the ocean, offering breathtaking sea views both near and far. The natural surroundings are teeming with life, where crabs and mudskippers scuttle about just meters below, and sometimes, you might even spot schools of fish swimming beneath the house.

Tatu is uniquely designed with two separate levels, each with its own roof, creating the sensation of two distinct houses. These levels are harmoniously connected by a central deck, where you'll find a charming bathroom with two sinks and ensuite toilets. The main house sits on rocks beneath a Tamarind tree, close to the ground, while the staircase descends into the second house, which hovers over the beach, nestled among the mangroves. The clever design ensures that, even while indoors, you remain surrounded by the breathtaking natural beauty of Chole Island.
