Step into a place rich in history, a welcoming retreat that feels like a home-away-from-home, where guests are greeted warmly by a friendly and attentive team, creating a true sense of arrival.
The main Lodge buildings and 24 chalet rooms are nestled within lush, jungle-like gardens filled with towering palms and mango trees, home to Colobus and other playful monkeys. These gardens overlook a small dam where water buffalo bask and yellow-billed storks gather. Peaceful nooks are scattered throughout the grounds, providing ideal spots to sit, reflect, and absorb the serene surroundings. It is hoped that guests depart feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready for their onward journey.
From thrill-seekers to leisurely explorers and families, travelers from across the globe head to northern Tanzania for a safari experience like no other. Conveniently located between Arusha Town and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), this spot is the ideal stopover before continuing on to Mount Meru, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, or the Ngorongoro Crater. Guests are invited to unwind, enjoy a hearty meal, and even take advantage of a relaxing massage.
Visitors can soak in the lush gardens, lounge by the inviting pool, and enjoy home-style meals and cozy accommodations. Activities range from canoeing on nearby Lake Duluti to exploring the scenic Usa River town. The reception area offers a unique glimpse into the Lodge’s history, captured through photographs dating back to 1959, when Dr. Andreas Von Nagy arrived in Tanzania from his hometown of Balatonederics, Hungary.
With a variety of options including three-course buffet meals, à la carte salads, curries, wood-fired pizzas, and dishes for children and vegetarians, every meal at Mount Meru Game Lodge is prepared from scratch. The menu features both global flavors and local Swahili specialties, such as wali na maharage (rice and beans) and chipsi mayai (an egg and potato dish), offering guests a true taste of the region.
Great care has been taken to retain the original charm of each room, while incorporating modern comforts to enhance the guest experience.
In early 2023, four new wheelchair-accessible rooms and pathways were added, providing greater accessibility throughout the property.
Today, the property features a total of 24 uniquely designed guest rooms. These include 20 double rooms (with 8 interconnected pairs), a cozy single room, 2 family units with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, and a spacious single-unit family room, which can also accommodate three guests. The beds are made from solid wood, equipped with mosquito nets, and the mattresses and linens are of premium quality.
