The setting

Nestled against a low hill with sweeping views of plains and dolerite-capped mountains, Plains Camp blends into its natural surroundings whilst providing a front row view to this piece of paradise and its plentiful wildlife. Zebra, black wildebeest, springbok and gemsbok meander these plains, alongside giraffe, ostrich and cheetah — the tableau only further enhanced by the unmistakable call of the ground-dwelling korhaan bird.

The camp

Designed to touch the ground lightly and with sustainability in mind, the camp echoes the semi-permanence of mobile camps set up during safaris of yore. A communal mess tent houses an indoor dining and lounge space with open sides for soaking up the views. Antique and locally-made furnishings add a touch of authenticity to the setting without compromising on comfort, creating the perfect spot to cosy up with a book or binoculars. Lit by candlelight and oil lanterns, the camp has no electricity, but plenty of atmosphere. A small farm-style plunge pool provides respite from the midday heat.

The experience

A slow and considered experience focusing on guided walking safaris is designed to bring the semi-arid ecosystem to life. Daily morning bush walks focus on the little things so often ignored or unseen from the vehicle. Tracks, flowering Karoo bossies, ostrich eggs and beetles — all these natural wonders form part of the days sightings. In the afternoon, game drives provide an undeniable thrill as guests are able to get up close with cheetah, rhinoceros and giraffe under the supervision of expert guides and trackers. As the coolness of evening approaches, sundowners are just what the doctor ordered, followed by spectacular stargazing.

Guest tents

Four deluxe guest tents are positioned to enjoy spectacular undisturbed mountain views, providing a tranquil sanctuary to return to after a long day of exploring. Theres nothing quite like "champagne air" to make for a restful nights sleep! Tastefully furnished with all the essentials, the intimate bedroom and seating area are warmed by a small fireplace in winter and cooled by a fan in summer. A simple en-suite bathroom at the back of the tent contains an indoor loo, a washbasin and a separate open-air "bucket" shower — filled from the outside with hot water on request.

Dining

Simple, wholesome meals are cooked by the chef over the campfire and taken either in the well-appointed mess tent or al fresco under a Jacketplum tree. A bar in the mess tent stocks a variety of chilled drinks as well as tea, coffee and Amarula hot chocolate.

The Manor is an elegant 4-suite villa, a striking oasis in the semi-desert landscape.

The Manor’s uniquely warm design reflects the local environment and traditions with a light, modern twist. Upon arrival, your eye is drawn through the glass double doors flanked by beaded African artwork and Karoo antiques to the 21-metre infinity pool and breathtaking views beyond.

The Manor can be booked on an exclusive use basis, an option well-suited to families and groups looking for privacy, indulgence and complete relaxation. When booked exclusively, The Manor guests have access to a private vehicle, guide, chef and host as well as a tailor-made programme of activities.

Simbavati Amani is a charming, intimate safari villa in the peaceful heart of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, perfect for couples or exclusive use.

Though there are only four luxury suites within the homestead, a magnificent double volume sitting room, mezzanine library area, interactive kitchen and bar mean there is generous space to relax.

Warm evenings are spent socializing around the fire-pit, marvelling at the star-studded sky whilst animal calls echo through the darkness. Daytime means morning and evening guided game drives in the unfenced reserve, a part of the Greater Kruger and home to all the Big Five.

The gardens offer a tranquil oasis, shaded by mature trees. They flow down to a secluded entertaining area with infinity pool, terrace, alfresco bar and campfire. Camp George offers an oasis of tranquillity within the wilds of the Klaserie Game Reserve. It is a classic safari escape, set alongside a dry riverbed and within lush indigenous gardens Designed for couples, family and friends, this intimate lodge comprises eight luxury suites, each with its own private deck.

Our nine room lodge and self-contained cottage are perched high on the dunes overlooking the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a 600 hectare pristine fynbos reserve. The estate abounds with plains game such as eland, zebra, bushbuck and waterbuck so there is plenty to see in all directions.

Immerse yourself in scenery to revive both mind and soul. Sedgefield has a tortoise as its emblem to remind visitors of the joy of ‘slow travel’. So meander along our nature trails, lie and watch the clouds or sit with binoculars. Enjoy a picnic or sundowners overlooking Gerickes Point. When you fancy a change of pace, take a mountain bike and choose from a variety of off-road trails. 

Close to but off our own property, discover lovely fossil dunes and beaches, kayak on the Swartvlei and Sedgefield lagoons, visit the neighbouring protea farm. In summer at low tide, snorkelling in the rockpools can be a treat. More excitement still? This area is a big draw for advanced paragliding. Whilst invigorating sunrises and romantic sunsets will make this an unforgettable stay.

Simbavati Grumeti is nestled on the open plains between the Serengeti National Park and the Grumeti River, within Tanzania’s fabled northern safari circuit. It is on these acacia dotted plains that multitudes of wildlife congregate all year round in a game viewing spectacular.

These plains also play host to vast herds of wildebeest, which assemble during their annual migration and move between the north and south of the Serengeti National Park. You may also be lucky enough to see buffalo, giraffe, lion and other wildlife from your tent and the lodge.

Twelve  luxury safari tents have a king-sized bed (which can be converted to twin), en-suite bathroom with outdoor showers, ample storage space, viewing deck and views over the plains.

Hilltop Lodge has one of the finest settings in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, an unfenced but private part of the Kruger Park. It’s perched on the hillside with wide angle views over the bush and views to the distant mountains of the Drakensberg escarpment. Below lie the expansive Mbali Dam and the Nhlaralumi River, where you may be lucky to see elephant, and other wildlife, come to quench their thirst.

Hilltop Lodge has a light footprint, purposely designed so that it can be removed without leaving any lasting impact on the land. This luxurious tented lodge has a romantic, bright and airy ambience with 8 spacious tented suites connected by wooden walkways to the main lodge.

The spacious Simbavati Homestead is our self-catered lodge, which combines the intimacy and warmth of a holiday home, with the game experience of a traditional safari lodge. Here, in the heart of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, you can have the freedom of the African bush and its magnificent wildlife. But on your terms. Expertly guided game drives in open 4×4 game drive vehicles can be tweaked to suit your party of family or friends. (Up to a point. Bear in mind that hungry animals on the hunt may not wait for a teenager’s sleep schedule!)

Interiors are comfortable, contemporary and expansive which invites you to totally relax. Five en suite bedrooms sleep 10 people. There’s an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area for easy living. There’s a separate TV lounge or snug, which is also a perfect place for kids to hang out.

Simbavati Migration Camp is a beacon of luxury and adventure. This mobile camp moves its prime location twice a year, perfectly placed near the Mara River during the wildebeest migration, and just north of Lake Ndutu in the South of the Serengeti during the calving season.

Six luxurious mobile tents are positioned to embrace the tranquillity and majesty of the wilderness while twice-daily game drives seek out the wildebeest and a myriad of other wildlife on safari.

Guests can watch the birdlife and animals directly from the camp too, allowing for moments of pure awe and contemplation.

Mvubu Cottage is a picturesque cottage in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve,  with views of untouched African bush. It is located alongside the expansive Mbali Dam and the Nhlaralumi River. 

This luxurious cottage has a quaint, restful and impression with two suites with a pool overlooking the dam and river. Wake up to the sounds of the hippos in the distance, with the familiar bird twitterings surrounding the cottage.

Simbavati River Lodge enjoys a unique setting on the banks of the Kruger Park’s Nhlaralumi River in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve.

One of its winning charms is the popular waterhole right below the dining deck, much loved by elephant. Between game drives, you could enjoy a game-viewing experience of note just sitting on the deck as wildlife comes and goes from the water.

This lodge has a broad appeal, with a traditional safari ambience but with a relaxed contemporary twist in terms of décor. You have a choice of tented or chalet accommodation. It caters well to couples and honeymooners with a safari spa and fully equipped fitness centre. Whilst its two-bedroom chalets and Cubs Club kids centre are popular with families.

River Sands Villa is a combination of luxury and opulence with exceptional private views overlooking a watering hole, in the heart of the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. It is positioned alongside the Sohebele River, a tributary of the Nhlaralumi River. A custom designed waterfall pool feature overlooks the watering hole that attracts a variety of wildlife throughout the day. 

This opulent villa emits a private and luxurious feeling with 2 spacious suites connected by the main lodge area with a large fireplace which makes up the heart of this villa.  The villa is a personification of the term: “Space is Luxury”

The Timbavati forms part of the Greater Kruger Park and offers exceptional game viewing including all the Big Five, most notably leopard, and also wild dog. Once again privacy is accentuated in the twice-daily game drives on the villa’s private game vehicle, which provide for close encounters with birds and animals, large and small.

Simbavati Trails Camp is a gem; a luxury-yet-back-to-basics walking trails camp located in a secluded area of the Timbavati Game Reserve. It’s all about guided walks with expert guides, one of the most stimulating and enthralling forms of safari. Trails Camp borders, without fences, an unspoilt wilderness area of 11,000 hectares in the Kruger National Park.

There is no electricity, WiFi or cell phone reception. Just you, in the heart of an untamed African wildlife wonderland. Hearty and delicious meals are prepared over an open fire by an expert cook.

The minimum stay is two nights. But to really appreciate the rich but slower walking trail rhythm, we recommend a three night stay.

Please note that the camp is only operational during the cooler autumn to spring days from March to November. As an authentic and immersive walking trails experience, game drives are not available.
