Camp Sossus emphasises every aspect of our intention to redefine immersive exploration and luxury. Our own definition of this encompasses privacy, intimacy, experiential focus and total flexibility, all whilst being perfectly comfortable. The camp offers just six tented guest rooms and is open year-round, providing a great alternative to any traditional lodge or camp in the Sossusvlei area, whilst offering unparalleled opportunities for immersive exploration of the Namib Desert environment. The large west-facing windows and south-facing doors in the tented guest rooms allow natural cooling by the predominant afternoon south westerly wind, and the tents all have a basic infrastructure that offers important comforts. These include semi open-air en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and hot bucket showers with locally sourced amenities, comfortable extra-length three-quarter twin beds, solar lighting, 220V electrical charging station, pedestal fan, shaded patio, shaded day-bed and a magnificent star bed. The essence of the camp therefore remains both experiential and immersive.

Huab Under Canvas is nestled in a grove of Mopane trees on the banks of a tributary of the //Huab River in the heart of Damaraland. Protected from all the prevailing winds and sun, the camp is virtually invisible from anywhere around and it carries arguably the lowest environmental footprint of any camp in Namibia. Tents are raised on mobile platforms and have basic infrastructure such as single beds, cupboards, solar power and some important comforts such as en suite flush toilets and bucket showers. However, the essence of the camp remains under canvas, mobile and experiential.

The Nest @ Sossus is tucked away in a lush valley on the private Namib Tsaris Conservancy, and it backs up against the great escarpment in the Namib Desert. This valley is a true desert oasis, boasting seasonal natural water pools and falls, and this makes it a magnet for the game moving through the area. A floodlit waterhole provides exciting and varied desert wildlife viewing as well as incredible birding.   The Nest @ Sossus was designed using the unique structure of a Sociable Weaver nest as inspiration and it took eight years, including a three-year build, to bring this project to fruition, resulting in one of Namibia’s most extraordinary private villas in terms of both design and décor. The Nest was designed by Porky Hefer, one of Africa’s most awarded creative personalities, created by landscape conservationist Swen Bachran, and decorated by the up and coming Maybe Corpaci.

Onduli Ridge, named after the resident giraffe of the area, is built at the base of two south facing granite outcrops which are connected by a ridge. This location allows for magnificent views of Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg, to the south and the dispersed cathedral-like granite inselbergs to the north.

The six suites are hidden amongst the granite boulders that nestle the camp and the more temperate climate of central Damaraland allows for naturally ventilated suites, partial open-air bathrooms and largely open communal areas. The camp is designed to maximise the views of this most extraordinary landscape and every space becomes a viewpoint whether from the bed, the desk or the bathroom. Louvered shutters can be opened completely, blurring the lines between the indoors and nature, or closed for complete privacy if required. A king size bed cooled by its own ‘climate conditioner’ (Evening Breeze) is also the perfect place for afternoon siestas and the bed can be rolled out onto your private deck for a night under a billion stars as required. The camp exudes character and meticulous attention to detail meeting all requirements,from large rooms to libraries, rain showers, infinity pool and plenty of places to laze. Food to tantalize the palate after enjoying exceptional activities combines a genuinely unforgettable stay with exceptional quality while blending effortlessly into the natural surroundings.    

Onduli Enclave, the private villa addition to Onduli Ridge, epitomizes mindful environmental integration and consideration. Onduli Enclave is built high up against a south-facing granite outcrop, affording magnificent views of the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain to the south, the dispersed cathedral-like granite inselbergs to the southeast, and the Doros Crater to the west. Three fully climate-controlled suites have super king-sized beds, which can be rolled out onto your private deck for a night under a billion stars as required. A private lounge, dining room, and interactive open-plan kitchen make up the common area, along with numerous outside areas for sitting and relaxing. World-class meals prepared by a private chef and served by a private butler combine with the exceptional activities offered by a private guide to provide a genuinely unforgettable stay of exceptional quality.

Camp Doros is deliberately small and intimate, and it is located in a core area for desert adapted black rhino with activities largely focused on finding the black rhino with an experienced and qualified Rhino Ranger team. Camp Doros is perched on a high bank overlooking a (generally) dry riverbed and groves of Mopane trees in the heart of Damaraland. Protected from the prevailing winds, the camp carries arguably the lowest environmental footprint of any camp in Namibia. Six shaded guest tents (one of which is a family unit) are raised on platforms and have twin and limited double beds, cupboards, solar power for lighting and charging points, as well as hot running showers and en suite flush toilets. The camp also has a spacious common area including bar serving area, dining room, lounge with fireplaces and a campfire deck, as well as a welcome plunge pool and sun deck. There is a focus on personalized service delivery, and this includes hearty and scrumptious meals which are prepared in a largely solar and wood-fired kitchen.
