Kanonkop House

Gloriously situated on the apex of Kanonkop Hill above Knysna, one of South Africa’s favourite coastal resort towns, Kanonkop House offers 5 star accommodation with beautiful views of the Knysna Lagoon stretching all the way to the famous Knysna Heads.

The 7 suites at family owned Kanonkop House are all provided with fully appointed private bathrooms.   The rooms each have their own character: they are individually created, named and decorated with the ideas and artwork of talented South African artists.

In addition, the rooms are extremely well equipped, including satellite TV, hi fi, wireless internet connectivity , electronic safes, and underfloor heating, as well as personal amenities such as bathrobe and slippers, hairdryers, and bath and skin care products.   Coffee and tea making facilities are provided, together with newspapers and other reading material.   All rooms are non-smoking.

All guests have access to a private pool and complimentary bar.

The garden and small indigenous forest attract wildlife and an abundance of birds – from the elusive Knysna lourie to the iridescent sunbirds and humble wagtails.

As part of the unique personal service offered at Kanonkop House, lagoon fishing trips with the son of the owners, who is a qualified and experienced skipper, can be enjoyed aboard a fully equipped motor boat.

If you have more active inclinations, waterskiing and wake-boarding are available with tuition if required.

Or, if something more relaxing is preferred, take a sunset cruise aboard the family luxury speed boat and watch the lagoon transform into shimmering molten liquid under an orange sky.   Spellbinding!

You are also welcome to make use of Kanonkop’s double and single canoes to explore the waterways – with a packed picnic lunch for sustenance!

There are numerous hiking trails in the surrounding forests and guests will be assisted to select the most appropriate routes.

For those who enjoy cycling, Kanonkop has 2 mountain bikes for guests, with transport provided to and from the forest bike trails.

There are several fine beaches in the vicinity of Knysna.   Whales, otter, dolphins, and seal can all be viewed in the pristine waters along this magnificent stretch of coast where ancient indigenous forest and Cape fynbos overlook rocky outcrops and secluded coves.
