We are located on top of a hill in the Northern Safari Circuit of Tanzania an authentic African rural area, in Rhotia, near Karatu, just on the boundary of Ngorongoro Crater and not far from Lake Manyara National Park, and Tarangire and Serengeti National Parks.

Set in 50 acres of virgin Tanzanian bush in the Ngorongoro volcanic landscape, this all suites wood log cabin style retreat is located a few steps from the Game Reserve Gate and 20 minutes drive away from the Ngorongoro Crater that is said to have the most dense concentration of wildlife in Africa.

This all inclusive property features 20 spacious private log cabins with fire place, a restaurant, a bar and conference facilities. Indulge in moments of relaxation at the swimming pool or at the Earth & Rain Spa after a full-day game drive.

The Retreat at Ngorongoro is a nature-inspired paradise set on over 60 acres of land overlooking the Ngorongoro Forest. The lodge was developed with a great deal of passion for nature. Each of our spacious cottages are tastefully appointed with local art, king or queen beds, mosquito net, fireplace and deck with chairs and a chaise lounge overlooking the lush forest.
A coffee table, dressing with writing desk and wardrobe (which includes a safe), dual wash basins, water closet and rain shower head are just some of the amenities.

Karatu Simba Lodge offers a slice of life only to be found in rural Tanzania. Located about a thirty-minute drive from the gate of Lake Manyara National Park, approximately four kilometres off the main road to the entry of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the lodge is situated next to the Ngorongoro Forest. Accommodation is in individual twin, double or triple cottages or rondavels with canvas walls and solid attached bathroom and shower, tastefully and simply decorated with hand made furniture of African hardwood. Each unit has its own deck with safari chairs for relaxing and viewing the pastoral setting. Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi in the common areas, an evening campfire and pool with views onto the forest. The lodge is eco-friendly with solar power and hot water and there is a well stocked bar and dining room serving food and coffee fresh from nearby plantations.

Our aim is to provide our guests with something different – simple homey comforts at a reasonable price. We’ve created a small sanctuary on the edge of Karatu town where safari travellers can take a break from the dusty roads and enjoy fresh country cuisine, a cool garden environment and stellar Tanzanian hospitality.

All of our staff live in the nearby town and surrounding villages and you’ll find they are eager to please and about as friendly as anyone you’ll find anywhere. Your comfort and pleasure whilst you’re staying with us is our main concern.
