Fugitives’ Drift is set in a 5000-acre game reserve with 22km of river frontage. The Lodge and Guest House face roughly north-east and have commanding views of the peak of Isandlwana and of the rough country the fugitives from the battle had to traverse in order to get back across the Buffalo River into Natal.

Built on the site of the British Residential Commissioner, Sir Charles Saunders's residency. Originally Tavernors then The Provincial Hotel. Land was aquired in 1896 and present Hotel Built in 1906 adjacent the Great 300 hectare Dlinza Forest. The Hotel during the mining boom of the 1920s, was operated as a Stock Exchange for four months.
