Kopano, which means “small gathering” in Setswana, is just that – its four luxury suites promise perfect privacy and a personal experience. A stay at the Kopano ensures you have your own space as well as a space to make memories with others – all while enjoying the majesty of your natural surroundings.

Each suite has its own private lounge, viewing deck, open-air shower, and plunge pool. From the comfort and privacy of your suite’s raised viewing deck, you can survey the vast plains of the Madikwe Game Reserve, while indulging in an outdoor spa treatment. Or just enjoy a “deckchair safari”, looking out for zebra, giraffe, elephant and various buck, with drink and snacks within reach.

If you’re the more sociable type, check out the main camp’s living spaces – the dining area, fireplace lounge with library, generously furnished deck, and boma raised above the bush. Lelapa camp’s communal pool is also available to Kopano guests, giving you even more opportunities to observe the local wildlife up close.

Tau Game lodge is located in the northern sector of the malaria free, big five Madikwe Game Reserve. One of the first lodges to be built in Madikwe Game Reserve, Tau is suitable for large groups, conferences, families and couples. Accommodation consists of standard suites, deluxe suites, a family unit and a family suite all overlooking the huge waterhole in front of the lodge. Tau Game lodge also welcomes children of all ages and has a dedicated kiddies program. Qualified guides will take you on 2 game drives a day and show you all that Madikwe has to offer.

The main camp at aha Thakadu River Camp is located between the Marico River and a small tributary of the Marico. The Lodge has a welcoming open-plan lounge, dining area and reception as an African bushveld oasis that offers exciting game drives as a compliment. The attractive bar and pool area are also ideal for relaxation, and the entire Lodge welcomes families.

The Lodge has been carefully constructed to blend into its surroundings, with the use of wood and thatched roofs. A traditional lapa falls within a glade of natural riverine forest to offer panoramic views. Besides lush views of the gully and river to the north, guests are delighted by our staff’s warm hospitality and personal care.

Motswiri Private Safari Lodge, situated in the western side of the 75 000 hectare, Big Five, malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province. As its name suggests, Motswiri Private Safari Lodge is an exclusive lodge offering guests a personal bush experience, which is impossible to replicate in larger concerns. The lodge offer some of the best views in Madikwe as well as the tranquil feeling given by the mature trees (mostly Leadwoods) under which the lodge’s main building, five luxury bush villas and the Luxury Family Villa nestle.

Buffalo Ridge is unique for many reasons, none more so than the fact it is one of only a few of its kind in South Africa. A lodge wholly owned by a local rural community. Known as Balete, the owners of Buffalo Ridge live in the village of Lekgophung, just west of Madikwe. Their story is one of endurance and hardship, but also of joy and triumph. Like many such places, Lekgophung was shaped by the history of our country. Its people have deep roots in the North West.

They are members of the Botswana, the great tribe that has lived in and around the fringes of the Kalahari for many centuries. Their graves are scattered across the landscape, including Madikwe itself. They speak Setswana, the common language of the Batswana, they have their own chief and their own totem, the buffalo. And as a clan they have their own traditions and way of life.

Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is the product of an opportunity presented by North-West Parks, for the Balete Ba Lekgophung to develop a lodge business that offers economic and social benefits to the community. The lodge, operated by The Nature Workshop, now in its 15th year of operation, is managed by a dedicated team from within the community offering our guests a very special lodge and safari experience.

The Bush House lies in the western region of the 75 000 hectare, big five, malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. An old farmhouse, which has been converted into a luxury lodge, the 6 large suites ensure privacy. Owned and managed by Gordon and Sue Morrison, service is second to none. The Bush House welcomes families, friends and honeymooners alike. There’s room for everyone. Big sprawling lawns and luscious gardens roll out towards the large waterhole in front of the lodge, which is frequented daily by game coming down for a drink. The Bush House boasts the original underground hide in Madikwe Game Reserve. It should be on everyone’s bucket list.

In the afternoon, when the heat of the African sun has diminished and the shadows are longer, head out on a sundowner safari to watch the sun set on this bushveld paradise and go in search of the more nocturnal creatures that now rule the bush. The safaris are carefully timed to ensure optimal seasonal comfort. Game drives in the big 5 reserve are both thrilling and educational, with your knowledgeable ranger and highly experienced trackers from the Shangaan tribe who are renowned for their tracking abilities.
